Spree update
She had been trialing and her performance consistent until an ilioposoas strain in the summer has put her into rehab. She even landed 3rd place and a National Championship qualifier at Regionals!
She has awesome weave poles now but I'm quite certain the effort that made this possible is what caused her weak ilioposoas to hit rock bottom. She has not been put on weaves since October. She has been working on her running a-frame, specifically the 180-turn after.
Cola update
Her last trial in October was a bit of crash. She had crazy enthusiasm one moment - and not enough brain power the next. We decided to leave that course early. She did end on a good note - thanks Wayne for tempting her with the world's most boring treat. High value treats for an already high value activitiy was not working well.
She had surgery on her mouth and foot on December 18th (she does not have foot and mouth disease, I know how it sounds). The foot is taking forever to heal, and she does things like the "velociraptor crate routine" where she heads into her crate with her cone on and gets stuck while making more noise than previously thought possible. Then Jon comes to her rescue. He now closes crate doors - which Spree runs into at meal time. Loose-loose situation.
Dexter update
It's been about 2 years since I started to teach him to weave. I did a bad job, since he is still trying to get the hang of it. Collection - difficult. Finishing the poles - difficult. Finding entries - difficult. I said I'd use the 2x2 training DVD to fix the whole thing up for him, but instead I broke Spree. Loose-loose situation.
He is doing extremely well in trials with strangers. Sarah has been working very hard with him and it has been paying off, but the road is long. He is still a reactive dog, and always will be.
My goal is to have him at new venues this year to prep for Regionals. If he can hack it there, we'll have a national champion on our hands! :P Not quite. Amanda and Wicca will have us beat at gamblers for sure!
And if you haven't heard it more than 23 times from me already, I'm getting a puppy. I can't release details yet! It's like telling you what I got for my 25th birthday when it hasn't happened yet!
Puppy puppy puppy puppy puppy! It's been 12 years!
